Agricultural Microbiology section has been established in June 1982. In last 37 years, section is engaged with Research & Development, extension, consultancy, training & transfer of technology. Through continuous research in the field of agricultural, environmental & industrial microbiology of sugar industry. It has contributed to the soil fertility management, diseases & pest management, increasing crop productivity & control of pollution at sugar industry. The section has major contribution with respect to development of new technologies for mass production of Biofertilizers, biocontrol agents, organic manures & Vermicompost through intense research. Soil fertility of sugarcane growing areas in Maharashtra is deteriorating day by day due to lack of organic manures, imbalance use of chemical fertilizers, excessive irrigation, poor drainage, monocroping system etc.
The section also provides consultancy for establishment of mass production of Biofertilizers & Vermicompost production units as well as biocomposting of agro industrial waste to member , non members & other sugar factories as a part of extension activity in sugarcane agriculture. Section has well established laboratory where quality control, microbial analysis of Biofertilizers, biopesticides, sugar, vermicompost, compost and enriched compost samples are carried out.
