To help distillery industry in their efforts to achieve economic progress with efficient use of resources and energy input and for adoption of modern technology in focused areas, viz. fermentation, distillation and effluent treatment systems
To undertake research for developing cost-effective alcohol production technologies from alternate raw materials.
Prepare Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for molasses and grain based distilleries, ENA plants, fuel ethanol plants, multi-feed and multi-product distilleries, biogas based power generation and compressed biogas (CBG) plants, Distillery Effluent Treatment systems consisting of biogas, bio-composting, integrated & stand-alone spent-wash evaporation plants, reverse osmosis plants, dryers, spent-wash incineration boilers etc.
Troubleshooting of process problems and identification of innovative cost effective technologies for transfer & adoption in the industry.
Develop potential yeast strains with high alcohol and/or high temperature tolerance for the benefit of the distillery industry.
Develop database/ data bank for distillery industry for the purpose of review or formulation of new strategy, to propose action for further improving their performance.
Human Resource Development (HRD) of technical personnel of distillery units by providing them advanced training in the field of their activities. (for details, see Academics)
Promote advanced analytical support to the sugar and by-product industry.
Arrange campus interviews and arrange placements of students completing Alcohol Technology and M. Sc. (Wine, Brewing & Alcohol Technology) courses from VSI.
